Restorative Dentistry FAQs

What does restorative dentistry entail?

General dentistry is geared towards preventing common dental issues, and cosmetic dentistry is utilized to improve the appearance of your smile. Restorative dentistry, on the other hand, is used to fix major tooth damage, replace missing teeth, treat painful TMJ issues, and treat gum disease. In essence, restorative dentistry focuses on correcting the functional problems you have with your teeth.

I have missing teeth. What are my replacement options?

Dr. Schweifler offers many options for replacing teeth. The type of restoration you will need depends on many factors, such as how many teeth you are missing, where they are located in your mouth and the current state of your oral health. If you qualify, Dr. Schweifler will recommend dental implants because they are the best solution available for missing teeth.

Do I need a dental bridge or a denture?

We will recommend a dental bridge if you have a row of one or more consecutive missing teeth. Dentures can restore rows or full arches of missing teeth. However, we will recommend partial dentures over dental bridges if patients have multiple missing teeth in different areas of their smile. Bridges can only restore consecutively missing teeth.

Do I need a dental crown if I have a root canal?

Dentists often recommend receiving a dental crown following root canal treatment to protect the treated tooth. Placing a dental crown on a molar or premolar after root canal treatment improves bite function. Crowns also prevent the treated tooth from breaking.

Will dental insurance cover restorative dental care?

Most dental insurance will cover up to half of your restorative dental treatment. If you are interested in a particular treatment or if we recommend restorative care, look at your insurance plan to determine how much is covered.
